Learn to Skate

The Basic Skills curriculum is available to skaters over the age of 4 who are taking their first steps on the ice. Instructors use engaging activities to teach the FUNdamentals of ice skating. The six progressive levels introduce forward and backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers and turns with agility, balance, coordination and speed as main focuses. Through these skills, skaters enter the first stage of skills to begin exploring the world of skating.

Upon completing the Basic Skills curriculum, skaters will be set up to choose whatever path in skating they desire. Whether they’re looking to land an Axel, score a hat trick or speed across the finish line, Basic Skills sets skaters up for success!

A bit about your instructor

Lynn Flaherty

Head instructor of Learn To Skate

Lynn began taking skating lessons at the age of 9. She went on to take private lessons at the age of 14. She tested and competed locally. After college Lynn joined Disney On Ice. She traveled with them for six years touring national and internationally. On returning home Lynn began teaching Learn To Skate. She has been teaching Learn to Skate for 35 years in many different programs, including organizing many programs and choreographing for local ice shows. She is thrilled to be teaching learn to skate at the South County Learn To Skate Program.

REGISTRATION IS ONLINE ONLY. The cost for the 8-week session is $161. An additional $17 yearly Learn To Skate membership fee will also be collected for skaters who have not done so this year. Registration can be found at the top of this page. NO REFUNDS will be given after the first lesson.

Helmets are MANDATORY for all beginners and recommended for all individuals
A parent or legal guardian must sign registration forms
Skate rentals are NOT included in your registration. Skate rentals are $5 a week
