BENCH WARMERS HOCKEY LEAGUE AND SEA-LEAGUE
The Bench Warmer Hockey League is an adult beginner to low-intermediate hockey league at the Boss Ice Arena! The goal of the BWHL is to create an environment where adults in Rhode Island, who are learning to play hockey, can participate in an adult league without worrying about getting styled on by high schoolers, college players, and your local beer league studs.
The BWHL will be open to all beginner players who are 16 and up. Have a friend who is an experienced player that you want to drag along? They're welcome too. Just as long as they promise not to pull Michigans every chance they get. The BWHL is meant to be a fun, casual, experience aimed at beginners, so anyone who can respect that is welcome to skate. IF YOU DO NOT PLAY RESPECTFULLY, YOU WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE LEAGUE AND NOT BE ISSUED A REFUND.
In the past year, we have expanded the BWHL! We now have teams of 10 which the Boss Ice Arena will randomly choose. Standings will be recorded and displayed right on this webpage, and in the last week of the session, we will have playoffs to determine a BWHL champion. The champions have and will continue having bragging rights!
Tired of Benchwarmers and looking a more competitive league?
The Sea-League is built for C level hockey players who want
fast‑paced, competitive hockey in a well‑organized environment. This
league emphasizes strong skating, quick decision‑making, and a high
level of game awareness. Players should be comfortable with the rules
of the game, sustained tempo, and the physical demands of competitive
adult play.
This league is for the hockey player that is trying to grow their
skills and knowledge of the game beyond the beginner levels. The Sea
League is the next step up from our BWHL program which is purposed as
a Learn-to-Play environment, so the expectation is everyone is looking
to get better and understand how the game of hockey is really played.
What the League Offers:
High‑tempo games — Fast transitions, structured breakouts, and
competitive play that challenges skilled athletes.
Strong competition — Teams are balanced to maintain parity, but the
overall level is geared toward players with significant hockey
experience.
Refereed league play — Certified officials ensure consistent
standards, fair play, and a true game‑day atmosphere.
Professional environment — Clear scheduling and a focus on
sportsmanship and respect.
